I will forever miss my Protege5. It truly was a Miata wagon.

It drives well enough that, let's be honest, it really doesn't have to be.

You can see a tiny corner of my old one in the background...had it for about ten years. It was a champ.
Only picture I have of it apparently.

I think a Protege5 is going to be my next car. I've currently got a 3rd-gen Escort wagon , which is essentially the Protege5's grandfather, and I think I want a slightly newer car when this one eventually has had enough. I've test driven the new '15 Mazda5 (which, of course, can't be had as a wagon — bleah), but I haven't had an opportunity to drive a Protege5. Are they as fun to drive as I think they will be? My 'Scort is pretty fun and handles nearly like a Miata, but is a little sluggish; is the Protege very gutsy?

They are fun to drive, I'd always regret getting into a different car cause I knew the steering would blow by comparison. Other car being my parent's Escape, Civic or whatever else. When mine was younger you could rev the piss out of it all day long. You certainly won't win any red light races but is fun to drive hard.

yea, fun cars, but watch out for the rust- Mazda evidently forgot a critical coating in paint prep or something. door bottoms, quarter panels, A-pillars (for real!).
